Scoliosis Bracing

What is the ScoliBrace?

The ScoliBrace is an innovative, corrective brace for people diagnosed with scoliosis. This brace supports the transition of the body as the spine moves into proper alignment. Most patients who utilize the ScoliBrace will likely achieve a reduction in spinal curve and notice an improvement in posture and pain relief. Through proven clinical results, the ScoliBrace has demonstrated a reduction in spinal curves caused by scoliosis in infants, adolescents, and cases involving adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

Who Are Good Candidates?

Patients who are good candidates to use the ScoliBrace will likely have spinal curves caused by scoliosis between 25 and 60 Cobb. These curves can be seen in infants, juveniles, adolescents, adults or individuals with AIS. Getting fitted for the ScoliBrace is a simple process that involves an examination of x-rays and the physical attributes of a person. Each case of scoliosis is different and may require different treatments, depending on the degree of spinal curvature.

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is an unnatural spinal curve that may develop in younger years. Scoliosis is a progressive condition that causes back pain, irregularities in the body, and issues with posture. Although there is a natural curve in the spine when viewed from a side angle, curves caused by scoliosis can be seen when viewed from behind a person. Different types of scoliosis exist, depending on a person’s age, but the most common type is called “adolescent idiopathic scoliosis” (AIS). It is strongly suggested that scoliosis is common in families with a history of the condition, which indicates the possibility that scoliosis can be hereditary and genetic. However, researchers have been unable to identify the specific gene that causes scoliosis.

Scoliosis can occur in both children and adults, as it is not age specific. However, it is initially observed in children between the ages of 3 and 15. Scoliosis can also be detected in infants, but doctors will typically wait to treat babies, so they can observe the development of the spine. Scoliosis can also be caused in adults who suffer from spine degeneration, which usually accompanies old age. Noticeable traits of scoliosis include:

  • • Poor posture
  • • Shoulder humping
  • • Muscle weakness
  • • Pain
  • • Heart and lung problems (in rare cases)

Scoliosis Treatment

Scoliosis can be treated through observation, physical exercise, braces, and alternative therapies such as chiropractic care. At Waterfront Chiropractic in Huntington, we take every precaution with examining and treating patients with scoliosis. We begin with observing x-rays of the spine and move into a thorough examination of the spine and the patient’s physical condition. Treatment with the ScoliBrace is helpful in early intervention of scoliosis. In fact, bracing has been an effective method for decades, as it is a proven, non-surgical treatment for scoliosis.

ScoliBraces offer custom designs for all body types and are pivotal in some cases of scoliosis, essentially, improving some curves as greatly as 60 degrees.
